FAQ

How are dental implants different from dentures, partials, or crown and bridgework?
Dental implants are prosthetic teeth that closely mimic nature. The small titanium implant posts acts as a tooth root, a solid foundation on which an esthetic crown is placed. Dental implants can last a lifetime and require the same care that natural teeth need.

Dentures, partials, and bridges are held in place by clasps or adhesives, so the fit is not secure, and slippage can occur. While these prosthetics function adequately, they do not offer the solid, reliable function that dental implants offer, and they do not last as long.

Will you treat my children?
Yes! We adore children and will be honored to help your entire family prepare for a lifetime of healthy smiles. Dr. Tandon may suggest dental sealants or fluoride treatment to help protect your children’s teeth from cavities.

Why do I have to have a periodontal exam when I just want my teeth cleaned?
Gum disease is the leading cause of adult tooth loss in America, and the symptoms are often mild and painless. Once this progressive condition takes hold, it can quickly advance from gingivitis to periodontitis. When you visit our Branford dental office for a checkup or cleaning, the doctor will assess your gums for signs of periodontal disease. If detected, the disease can be eradicated and any damage repaired with periodontal therapy.

Our goal is your best smile, and healthy gums are an important part of oral health.

How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign has revolutionized orthodontics for adults. The clear acrylic aligners are almost undetectable and completely removable. Dr. Tandon uses 3D technology to design a system of Invisalign aligners that will reposition your teeth incrementally over one to two years. The aligners are made offsite at a dental lab. Every two weeks, they will give you the next aligner in your series, and the old aligner can be discarded.

You will have a straighter smile without compromising your professional, mature image! Schedule your Invisalign consultation today by calling our Branford dental office.

What does your soft tissue laser do?
A soft tissue laser makes oral surgery on soft tissues less traumatic than traditional surgery. We use the soft tissue laser to perform cosmetic gum lifts, crown lengthening, periodontal therapy, and other surgeries. Most patients experience little or no bleeding and a speedy recovery after laser therapy. With laser therapy, no stitches are necessary because the laser seals tissue.

Can you give me a more attractive smile within a few visits, or will it take months?
Modern cosmetic procedures are relatively quick and offer lasting results. For instance, veneers normally require about two office visits, but they completely transform a patient’s appearance. Teeth whitening in our Branford dental office with Zoom! takes only an hour, and take-home whitening systems work in less than two weeks.
